At the end of March, while Mark was out of town and before Vickie PCSed, we took a girls trip to Hiroshima and Fukuoka. The plan was to Space-A to Iwakuni and take a short bullet train ride to Hiroshima. That was all turned upside down when the Patriot had a door malfunction, which knocked us off the flight and back to square one.
When we got booted, we lost our minds a little bit. We only had 30 minutes to decide what to do before the next roll call! That time was spent crunching numbers, calling airlines, calling car rental agencies, and throwing around random ideas. The trouble was that we had already booked our accommodations for both places and if we canceled, we were out of that money. So, in the end, we decided to get on a Space-A flight to Yokota.
Yes, we went all the way to Tokyo to get to Hiroshima. It doesn't make the most sense, but it was the cheapest option! We committed to the idea and rolled with it. Tokyo, here we come.
Overall, we spent 20 hours of major traveling throughout our 5 day trip. After making it to Hiroshima, I never felt like I fully recovered from the first day of long, long travel! On that first day we flew, took the subway, road on a train, got a cab, took a ferry, and road in a car until we made it to our final destination. Whoa!
In the end, it was a nice trip spent with great friends! I'm in full "take advantage of every moment" gear and this "friendtrip" was no exception. Recaps up next!
